Information for prospective students

Are you interested in ecological synthesis and would like to join our lab? We have open positions for undergrads, grad students, and postdocs at the Graduate School in Ecology of USP, one of the top 3 in Brazil. USP has a nice system of graduate schools, with a lot of interaction between disciplines (check this article).

As an educator of young scientists, I believe in helping individuals of any age, gender, or nationality to make the most of themselves. Every person is different from the other and needs to find their own path in the academic career. At SintECO, everyone who works hard, stays focused, and respects their lab mates will get a chance to learn how to do science. Our research group is kept small, so everyone can receive the attention and investment needed.

Before you send me a mentoring request, read the following articles carefully: #1, #2, and #3. The first two are in Portuguese, but Google Translator does a got job converting them to English.

Read also some advice on how to approach a prospective advisor (in Portuguese too).

Finally, read our lab policies to find out more about our work philosophy. All lab members must also conform with the ethics code of the University of São Paulo.

I supervise only students and postdocs who make conscious career choices and do not just follow the herd. Prospective lab members are expected to be curious, hard-working, and have a beginner’s mind. In addition, they should be able to read English. After you think it through, contact me.
